August 2016 - The Canterbury Open 2016

The Canterbury Open started with the 8U tournament and Appeti Tennis were well represented with Charlie, Stuart, Michael and Jake playing in the boys draw and Chloe competing in the girls draw!

The players were split into boxes with the boys and girls competing in separately. In the girls draw, Chloe played exceptionally well in her first tournament away from the Tennis Centre and in her box of 5 players Chloe made a great start beating Skye Fontanelli 10-3 and Charlotte Spratling 10-7.

Chloe only lost to the eventual finalists Rozellah Nkereuwem and Genevieve Jeer, 7-10 in both matches. Well done to Chloe on her first tournament.

In the boys draw, there were 12 players competing, split into 3 boxes of 4. Our players dominated the boxes with Stuart winning his box and Michael coming second in the box only losing to Stuart. Jake won all his matches, as did Charlie.

The top 8 boys were then put into a draw where Charlie, Michael and Stuart all progressed to the semi finals where Charlie had to play Michael, winning a very close match 10-7, and Stuart lost to Dominic Curtiss 3-10.

The final was then set with Charlie taking on Dominic Curtiss. Charlie had a difficult start and lost the first 6 points but from 0-6 down Charlie showed his resolve going on to win an incredible 10 points in a row to win the match and the tournament 10-6!

In the 9U Boys draw Nobel George came through his box before losing to Mihai Bradu in the semi finals.

James Bidwell and Max Baldrey were unfortunately drawn together for the first round of the 10U Boys draw, these 2 have been long term practice partners and know each others game well. James was seeded 2 and played a good match against Max winning 4-1, 4-2. Following that James made a run to the semi finals where he lost to the eventual winner Jack Pegden.
