The penultimate week of our Summer Tour saw our players move a few miles around the coast to Felixstowe, Suffolk. The lovely seaside club offered 9 grass courts, 6 hard and 3 artificial grass courts.
The 8 and under boys saw Michael claim the runners up spot after he won 4 of his 5 matches, although the winner had done the same, he had beaten Michael so came out ahead!
The 12 and under boys saw Kai win the consolation draw after a tough 1st round exit. But Kai bounced back with 2 fantastic performances dropping just 1 game over both matches!
We also had 14’s and 16’s consolation wins from Seb. After 2 unfortunate first round draws, he found his form, beating a player whom he had lost to earlier in the week, so great progression in the space of a few days!
In the 16 and under boys, Ciaran had a great week making the final and finishing runner up. He beat the number 1 seed in the quarters and then played a rollercoaster semi-final which saw him save 4 match points and winning 5 straight points to book his place in the final. In the final, Ciaran didn’t do much wrong, he was up against a steady opponent and couldn’t break him down, but still put in a good performance.
We also had a runner up in the 18 and under boys draw in Ollie, who made the final with a string of comfortable performances in the rounds beforehand. In the final Ollie was pitted against a player who used his game smartly and changed up his tactics when he went behind and Ollie couldn’t quite find the remedy to switch it back in his favour.
Ollie was also runner up in an all Appeti Men’s final as he played Big Seb who had come through a 10-7 3rd set tiebreak in the semis as had Ollie against the number 2 seed. The final was 1 way with Seb showing his strength and size advantage to take home his 2nd title of the summer.
Seb also won the men’s doubles with partner Tim with a solid performance in the final against the 2nd seeds, breaking serve 4 times with some outstanding returns from both players, claiming Tim’s first main draw Grade 3 title!
Big Seb almost had the chance to play for a triple crown of events in the mixed doubles where he teamed up with Amelia. The pair made the semi-finals and had a match point but couldn’t convert it and lost out to the 1st seeds 10-4 in the 3rd set.
A massive thanks to the people at Felixstowe Lawn Tennis Club for making us feel so welcome for the duration of the tournament, a return will be on the cards for next year!
