October 2016 - A Successful Half Term of Competition for Appeti Players

Seventeen Appeti Tennis players headed up the Grade 3 Regional tournament being held at The Bromley Tennis Centre last week. The week started with the 14U and 18U Boys and Girls draw and saw Appeti Tennis School players Seb, Ciaran, Ollie, Marta, Toby, Amelia, Mia and Afalina and Academy player Joseph all competing, which meant a busy start with lots of matches happening and Appeti players spread around the venue.

There were some excellent matches during the first half of the week and lots of close results. In particular the Tennis School pupils impressed with their net play which they had spent the term training and working on with Eb.

Marta demonstrated this in the 14U Girls draw, where she reached the semi finals, losing an extremely close match against the number one seed 7-5, 7-5.

A huge well done to Mia who competed in not only her first competition as part of the Appeti Tennis School but also her first competition in the UK. Despite claiming nerves Mia put in a fantastic performance against Kent player Abby Taylor and won 6 - 3, 6 - 4. This form continued and Mia won her second match of the day 4 - 6, 6 - 2, 6 - 1, putting her into the semi final of the 18U Girls draw. Mia put up a great fight in the semi final, losing by the narrowest of margins against Gabby Chadwick 5 - 7, 6 - 7. Well done, Mia!!

Wednesday saw the 8U Tournament with Stuart, Ashleigh, Max and Jake heading up to Bromley Tennis Centre. These four did us proud and battled through their matches showing how far they have all come.

Wednesday afternoon saw the Doubles Draw with some strong teams, including Ciaran and Toby and Seb and Joseph. Afalina and Amelia made it through to the Consolation Final where despite working really well together a few missed volleys saw them just missing out on the win!

The 12U and 16U Boys and Girls draw started on Thursday and again the schedule was full up with matches with Ulrich, Toby, Joseph, Seb, Ciaran and Ollie all having matches in the morning. A particular well done to Seb who put in a brilliant performance winning his first match of the day 6 - 2, 6 - 0.

Another new Appeti Tennis School player made their first appearance at this tournament and Kai impressed everyone with his match play and good attitude. It was great to see him proudly wearing his sponsored Appeti Tennis School clothing and using his Volkl rackets.

The 12U Girls draw got off to a great start with both Afalina and Amelia winning their first round matches. With Amelia progressing through to the semi final, losing in a good match with lots of close games.

Afalina and Amelia also teamed up to compete in the 12U Girls Doubles Draw and got through to the Final where they were victorious winning 4-2, 5-3.

The 12U Boys Consolation Final saw two Appeti Tennis School players going head to head. Toby and Ulrich had a close first set but Toby, who has had a fantastic week’s tennis, stormed ahead in the second set to win 7-5, 6-3.

Ciaran also had a great week’s tennis and looked controlled in his 14U Boys Consolation Final where he took the match 6-1, 6-1.

Ollie made it through to the 16U Boys Final where he played the number one seed Harvey Kilsby. Ollie lost the first set 6-1 and despite fighting back in the second set lost it and the match, 7-5. Ollie turned it around later in the day winning the 16U Boys Doubles and the 18U Boys Consolation 6-0, 6-4.

Afalina also had great success in the Canterbury Half Term Tournament where she won the 12U Girls Draw. Charlie Appeti won the Consolation draw beating the second seed in the final.

Jake got through to the 8U Boys Final losing only 5-10 and Ashleigh finished third in the girl's 8U Draw with Chloe coming fourth.
