The final stop on the Appeti summer tour saw us move back to Kent for the County Closed championships at the Bromley Tennis Centre in Orpington.
The centre has 14 hard courts, 6 of which are inside and 8 are outside and is a fitting venue for the summer finale.
Starting with the 8 and under boys, we had Michael come through a tough box which contained the eventual winner of the event. He managed to battle through to the semi-finals where he lost a nail biting match 13-11, he still came off the court with a smile!
In the 12 and under girls, Afalina had 2 comfortable wins to make it into the semi-finals, where unfortunately she came up against the eventual winner and bowed out 6-4 6-2.
Big Seb was able to make the semi-finals despite his number 11 seeding, taking out the number 1 seed in the quarter finals, but didn't make it past the semi-final.
Ciaran and Toby made it to the semi-finals of the 14 and under doubles, but unfortunately lost in a 3rd set champ tiebreak after playing great tennis in the process of making it that far.
In the 16 and under boys, Ollie was close to taking the title by making the final with some very convincing performances, but couldn’t quite replicate the same display in the final, nevertheless a great feat making the final for the third year running.
It was another almost for Ollie in the 18 and under doubles as he and his partner made the finals after beating the number 2 seeds in the semi-finals 6-0 6-2, but came up against a very strong 1st seed pairing in the final.
In the 18 and under mixed, again, it was heartache for Ollie who made another final, but couldn’t quite get over the finish line coming through a tough 3 set win in their first match and then a more routine semi, him and his partner weren’t able to beat an extremely tough 1st seeds in the final.
The 14 and under boys saw our only singles champion crowned, Ciaran fought his way through the draw taking out the number 2 seed in the semis after being 5-3 down in the 3rd set, pulled it back to win in the tiebreak, then in the final battling back from a set down against the number 1 seed to take the last 2 sets 7-6 6-3. A fantastic achievement and a result of the hard work he has been putting in!
In the 14 and under mixed doubles, Ciaran made it 2 successes of the week when he paired with Afalina. They were able to beat the number 1 seeds comfortably in the semis and then they took out the 2nd seeds in the final. Not a bad result considering this was the first time they had played together in competition, a future partnership!
As a team, we would like to say a massive congratulations to all our players for their achievements here and also for the whole of summer, it was a fantastic 7 weeks of travelling and we would also like to say thank you to the parents and players for making it a great summer and definitely one to remember.
