A recent article in The Guardian outlined the best ways to exercise in every decade of your life and it proposed that the best decade to play tennis is in your 20s!
The article suggests that a huge number of people in their 20's and 30's are taking up tennis for the first time.
It seems that this is because tennis fits in very nicely with the lifestyle of this age group. We think tennis is brilliant for all ages but we certainly understand why this age group would love it and be compelled to start playing.
Tennis is a brilliant social activity, you have to contact and interact with others in order to play. What a lovely reason to meet up with friends for a fun run around the court and then popping out to dinner after!
Having a social hit with colleagues after work is becoming an alternative and significant way of team bonding and making contacts. Playing doubles, in particular, is a great way to building team strength, communication and understanding. It's also strategic, so can build multiple skills that could predict success on and off the tennis court.
Of course, getting fit and keeping active is always cited as to why many people play a sport and tennis is one of the best. It's a full body workout that increases aerobic capacity, lowers resting heart rate and blood pressure, improves metabolic function, increases bone density, lowers body fat, improves muscle tone, strength and flexibility. Wow!
Being outside was highlighted as important to this age group and the physical and mental health benefits this brings are huge. In fact improved mental health through increased self- confidence, decreased stress, improved moods, less depression and better quality sleep are other reasons why tennis is so attractive to people in their 20's and 30's.
It really does seem that tennis is the perfect "match" (sorry..........) for people in their 20's and 30's and meets the diverse needs of this demographic.
It's a great article so please check it out!!
And come and play tennis with us even if you're not in your 20's and 30's :)
